I have a question. I plan on spending a little time in Angel Fire and the surrounding area this summer. It seems like most of y'all that post here are very familiar with the area. I am curious what the roads are like in and around Angel Fire. Obviously in February and March, the roads weren't really in any condition to be observed for the type of surface they have. Between Angel Fire and Eagle Nest, there seemed to be a pretty decent sized shoulder, but I don't think it continued the entire way between the 2 points. From the slopes at Angel Fire I could somewhat see some of the neighborhood roads, but didn't really have an opportunity to investigate them.

So my question is, where are the best areas to ride bikes (or for my purpose, Trikkes) around the "Enchanted Circle"? Where are the widest shoulders, nicest pavement, etc.? If anyone knows and can give me some ideas, it would be greatly appreciated. I love to ride distance and I love to ride hills, so any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!!
When I ride a road bike, I find the safest route (feels the safest) with the widest shoulders is from Angel Fire to Red River. I do find it feels narrow as I start the descent into Red River. I am not comfortable riding any of the other roads because they feel too narrow and twisty and traffic is very fast.

I love to ride my mountain bike at the Enchanted forest which is near Red River on 38. Also, I love to ride on the Rio Grande gorge rim route which you can hop on on the west side of the river gorge bridge on 64.

Thanks! Much Woo to you! That would be a an awesome round trip ride. That's about 60-70 miles, no?

I've only seen how wide the shoulder is between Angel Fire and Eagle Nest, as I said before. Is the shoulder that wide until the area you speak of, where it narrows as you start the descent into Red River? Thanks again! Tongue
