Angel Fire Resort Plans Spring Fiesta to Wrap Up Ski Season

ANGEL FIRE, New Mexico (February 28, 2006) – Angel Fire Resort announced today it will host its first ever Fiesta del Sol event March 10th - March 12th. Fiesta del Sol combines classic spring break fun and sports events, all on one mountain. The weekend is made up of wild competitions, live entertainment, outdoor parties and creative terrain for both boarders and skiers.

The activities will officially start on Friday night at the Lazy Lizard with the Bud Light and Experience Snowboards free tacos party and a live band. The mountain fiesta kicks off Saturday morning with the Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge Race. The challenge will host the best skiers and boarders in the southwest as they vie for the title ‘King of the Mountain’. Saturday afternoon the mountain is open for any and all daredevils who wish to take center stage for a chance to win prizes in the Hawaiian Tropics Pond Skimming. The concept is simple: point your skis or board downhill and try to skim across an ice cold pond.

Sunday will start with snow volleyball, sponsored by Plastic Clothing, Inc. Unlike the sand and courts most players are familiar with, snow volleyball offers new challenges and entertainment on the ski slopes. For freestyle skiers and hardcore boarders the weekend motto will be “Riding the Short Bus at Angel Fire.” Sponsored by the Village of Angel Fire, the resort has built an extreme rail jam out of a traditional short school bus. The Short Bus Rail Jam will be open to all of those expert skier/snowboarder’s who are willing to take their expertise to the next level as talented freestylers will show how cold rails and deep snow are combining to become the hottest sport on the mountain. Also, clock your speed at the Angel Fire Resort Speed Trap. This timed course will give participants their speed within milliseconds. Other Fiesta del Sol participating sponsors include Dekal, Inc., Optic Nerve and 94 Rock.

“We already provide some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the southwest. But, why should we stop there? Why not give spring breakers the ultimate entertainment experience? So that’s exactly what we’re going to do. It’s all about options and we have a ton of them during Fiesta del Sol.” Said Jon Mahanna, General Manager of Angel Fire Resort.

There will be no shortage of celebrating during Fiesta del Sol. The party will move to the Village Haus on Saturday night with the seven-piece band, Felonious Groove Foundation.

“My goal is to provide an experience that you will never forget. From crazy people skiing across ponds, to racing, to snow volleyball this will be entertaining. When you leave here I want you to be able to say, ‘That was incredible.’” states Mahanna.

Fiesta del Sol will dovetail into the ski industry’s national “Go Sun Smart Program”, awareness and education campaign that provides winter enthusiasts with sun safety tips while on the slopes.

Fiesta del Sol begins Friday March 10th. For more information and lodging accommodations call Angel Fire Resort at 800-633-7463.
