Mike Smith Welcomes Opportunity to Create a New Hospitality Standard
ANGEL FIRE, New Mexico (November 14, 2008)--Angel Fire Resort today announced that Mike Smith has joined the Angel Fire Resort senior management team as the Director of Guest Services. In his role, Smith will oversee the standards for guest experience in the hotel, restaurants, retail and customer service departments. Smith’s primary goal is to infuse the resort staff with a new energy and enthusiasm that matches the many positive resort developments underway.
“We may not be able to control the weather or minimize the challenges of a ten hour drive with the kids and family dog, but we can make our visitors and members feel welcome the moment they enter the resort and walk through our doors,” says Smith.
Smith acknowledges some of the unique challenges of the area, such as a limited work force, seasonal employment and a feast or famine livelihood for most. However, he is confident the resort will overcome these issues by providing a competitive work wage, implementing new employee incentives programs and providing the community and resort staff with a pride of ownership in the resort facilities and services that are offered.
“We need happy employees to create happy guests,” says Smith. “We will be rolling out some new programs over the next several months that I believe will help with employee retention. At the same time we will be setting a higher bar for customer service which all of our employees will be expected to embrace. We want excellence to be the new normal.”
Smith brings a lot of large company experience with him, having been a general manager of multiple locations with Red Lion Motor Inns. He also spent considerable time with the Valley River Inn at Eugene, Oregon, and Salty’s in Portland, Oregon.
Adding to his managerial portfolio, Mike Smith launched Sprint PCS’s first market in the US as Director of the Northwest United States. Additionally, Smith has been Vice President of Sales for a national land company.
“We are delighted to have Mike here at the Angel Fire Resort,” said Pat Brunstad, CEO of Angel Fire Resort. “After my long distance conversations with him, he absolutely agreed with my commitment to raising the bar of quality across all functional areas, including the facelift of our property itself. Mike is here to deliver an entirely higher level of guest experience to our local and visiting guests.”
Mike Smith makes the move to Angel Fire from Las Vegas, Nevada where his wife, Wanda, will continue to live and work until spring when she can transition her Esthetician business.
