Governor Richardson will be on-site for the event Saturday, May 23rd.
ANGEL FIRE, NM – (May 20, 2009) – Angel Fire Resort announced today that Governor Richardson will provide the official start to the Short Track Cross Country (STXC) competition on Saturday, May 23rd at 2:30pm. The event will be staged at the base of the mountain adjacent to the Chile Express Chairlift.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Governor to Angel Fire Resort for this mountain bike event,” says Dave Dekema, director of marketing for Angel Fire Resort. “The Chile Challenge has grown to be the largest mountain bike competition in New Mexico and the second largest in the country with riders from over 34 different states. It is appropriate to have the leader of this great state on-site for a race commencement.”
New this year, the Chile Challenge has been selected as one of three U.S. qualifying events for USA Cycling’s new professional gravity mountain bike series, ProGRT. ProGRT was established to pit this country’s top gravity riders against one another on the top downhill trails and 4-cross courses. In addition to this new USA Cycling designation, the Chile Challenge is a series stop for Mountain States Cup, UCI qualifying and National Mountain Bike Series (NMBS) championship events.
The Chile Challenge lasts through Memorial Day weekend. Event organizers expect over a thousand mountain bikers in five competitive mountain bike disciplines: Downhill, Super-D, Cross-country (XC), Short-track Cross-country (STXC) and Four-Cross (4X).
Off the dusty trails, spectator-friendly festivities will include a Red Bull Mountain Bike Polo competition (open to anyone), hot air balloon rides, live music, an expanded Tech Expo and Vendor area, the first-ever “Short Skirts and Moustache” party, micro-brew sampling, horseshoe tournaments and more. A complete event schedule is attached and is also available at www.angelfireresort.com.
We hope to see you in Angel Fire for the event.
