AFR Opens the Highest-Altitude Disc Golf Course in NM

New 9-Hole Course Opens June 12th at the Resort’s Summit

ANGEL FIRE, NM – (June 10, 2009) – Angel Fire Resort announced today the opening of its new Disc Golf course. Located at 10,600’ in elevation at the mountain summit, the new course is highest-altitude disc golf experience in New Mexico. The design for the fun and challenging 9-hole disc golf course was a collaborative effort between the Angel Fire Resort mountain staff and renowned disc golf enthusiasts and coordinators of the Professional Disc Golf Association for New Mexico, Bill and Sue Leslie. They utilized the terrain of Angel Fire Resort’s ski mountain for the hazards and to maximize the beauty of the course. The resort plans to expand the course to a full 18-hole in the near future to further enhance the disc golf experience.

“We believe the new course in Angel Fire will be remembered not only as one of the highest courses but as one of the most scenic courses in the country,” says Bill and Sue Leslie, NM State PDGA Coordinators. “We are pleased that Angel Fire has joined the other five disc golf courses in the area to help establish what will soon be known as the Disc Golf Mecca of New Mexico. We do not know of any other area like this which has such a great potential to bring in disc golfers from all over the United States.”

Disc golf is free to play, but requires a lift ticket or season pass to access the chairlift. The first tee is adjacent to The Summit Haus restaurant at the top of the Chile Express chairlift. The course includes both novice and advanced "tee pads," perfect for the whole family or players just beginning their disc golf careers. All players must sign in at the Summit Haus where they will receive their score cards. Rental Discs are available as well. Hours of operation are 10am-5pm in conjunction with the chairlift schedule.

To introduce players to the new course at Angel Fire, the resort will host a Disc Golf Invitational on June 20th, 2009. This is a fun event, rather than a tournament. Free lift tickets and special lodging packages are available through Angel Fire Resort.
