Resort Rolls Out Bikes, Blues & Brews for Labor Day Weekend

NM Brewers and Bikers Compete for Prizes on
Saturday, September 5th

ANGEL FIRE, New Mexico (August 17, 2009) – Angel Fire Resort announced it will host its first outdoor “Bikes, Blues and Brews” party on Saturday, September 5th in front of the Lodge at Angel Fire. Motorcycle rider contests, popular craft beers, door prizes and great live music will be the main attractions in and around a giant big-top tent.

“Angel Fire hosted some pretty popular Oktoberfest events back in the day,” said Andy Whitacre, resort special events manager. “We get requests all the time--from locals, visitors and brewers alike--to bring back the best elements of those celebrations. We’re kicking it back off on Labor Day Weekend, coinciding with a Run-for-The-Wall motorcycle reunion in Angel Fire, to allow many of our area’s guests to squeeze in one last great get-together this summer.”

The Saturday schedule of events is as follows:

3pm-7pm Angel Fire’s 2009 People’s Choice Craft Beer Challenge

New Mexico’s top microbreweries will compete for “best of show” prizes voted on by all event attendees. Participating microbreweries include Santa Fe Brewing Company, Sierra Blanca, Chama River, High Desert, Eskes, Rio Grande, Marble Brewing Company and Blue Corn Brewery. In addition, popular non-New Mexico beers will be available for sampling, including Widmer, Kona and Redhook. Beer makers will be on site to discuss their special brews.

Admission to the microbrew challenge is $15 and includes the event beer sampling and admission to the evening live music event. All participants will receive a souvenir tasting glass filled with their top-rated brew. In addition, every attendee will be entered into a grand prize drawing, winner to be announced on-site at 7:30pm, for an all-expense paid trip to the world-famous Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, September 18-20 in Telluride, CO. Prize includes 3-nights lodging at the Hotel Telluride, breakfast for two, in-town transportation and two 3-day passes to all the event festivities.

4pm-6pm Motorcycle Rider Challenges

Dust off that ride and leather up! Riders will compete in fun challenges for prizes that include logo’d biker apparel, ski and golf getaways, and upcoming concert event tickets. The challenges will include a slow ride competition, keg push, rail ride and fan favorite bike selection. Entry to the biker games is free. Riders must be 18 or older to compete.

7pm-10pm Bikes & Blues Bash

Party in the heated tent to the live music of the Rock Bottom Blues Band. There’ll be barbeque, a full cash bar and a good selection of microbrew vendors. Admission for the Bikes & Blues party only is $5. Partial proceeds benefit the David Westphall Veterans Foundation and the Run-for-the-Wall motorcycle event. You must be 21 or older to attend.

“Bikes, Blues & Brews” is sponsored by the Sangre de Cristo Chronicle, KKTC-FM, Premiere Distributing, The Hotel Telluride and Bob’s Yard.

A special Bikes, Blues and Brews Festival lodging package is available for $89 and includes a two night stay at the Lodge at Angel Fire Resort and event admission. Pricing is based on double occupancy.
