Angel Fire, NM Lights the Powderkeg in January 2010!

A 10 Day ‘Blast’ of Great Live Music, Games, Lodging Specials and More

ANGEL FIRE, New Mexico (January 5, 2010) – Night time entertainment and day time mountain activities dominate the first-ever Powderkeg Mountain Festival, January 22-31, 2010. Co-presented by Angel Fire Resort, the Village of Angel Fire and the Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce, the event will carry forward the best traditions of Angel Fire’s annual “Big Ol’ Texas Weekend,” but with a new schedule too big for just three days.

“We asked ourselves how we could best take a popular event like Big Ol’ Texas Weekend and blow it up, in a good way,” said Dave Dekema, director of marketing for Angel Fire Resort. “We figured let’s fill two weekends and the week in between. We’ll bring in great entertainment partners, add even more rockin’ music acts, throw in some crazy wintertime snow events and add the season’s best lodging deals. Boom. Done. We’ve got ourselves a festival.”

Partners in the ten-day event include Bud Light, Jack Daniel’s, Kenwood Wines, Resort Properties, the Sangre de Cristo Chronicle, Big I 107.1, 94 Rock, and others.

Performing music acts include:

Suzanna Choffel: Winner of the Best Indie Artist prize at the Austin Music Awards, Suzanna Choffel's fresh pop sound combines soulful/sassy vocals and insightful songwriting with catchy guitar grooves and funky urban rhythms. Her music has earned comparisons ranging from Feist to Nelly Furtado, Norah Jones and KT Tunstall. Suzanna Choffel's live-performance YouTube videos have been viewed over half a million times. www.suzannachoffel.com

Whitney Duncan: Tennessee-native Whitney Duncan is a fiery, fast-rising country music artist. She was a finalist on the USA Network television show Nashville Star. She has released her first studio album and has popped on the U.S. country singles charts with hits "When I Said I Would" and "Skinny Dippin'.”

Stoney Larue: Born in Taft, TX, to a musical family, Stoney LaRue plays with a style that combines the rootsy, emotionally honest sound of country with the beer-drinking swagger of heartland rock and a dash of the moody undercurrents of the blues. Early in his career LaRue stormed honkytonks and dancehalls in Oklahoma and Texas, winning a loyal following for his passionate live shows. In the spring of 2007, LaRue released his third album, which was also his second live set -- Live at Billy Bob's Texas, recorded during a 2006 gig at the famous Fort Worth venue. www.stoneylarue.com

The Bleu Edmondson Band: Bleu Edmondson began writing his own songs at the age of 19, got his first guitar on his 21st birthday, formed a band by the time he was 22 and hasn’t looked back since. After writing to the legendary Lloyd Maines, asking for a shot to do a record with the highly respected producer, Bleu has been making records ever since, influenced by the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Robert Earl keen, Lyle Lovett, and The Rolling Stones. Lloyd Maines automatically gave Bleu the guidance and street cred so many young songwriters strive for years. His first album Southland produced the hits “50 Dollars and a Flask of Crown” and “Travellin Man” which set Bleu off and running in the Texas music scene. www.myspace.com/thebleuedmondsonband

Additional music acts include The Long Run, The Rudy Boy Experiment, Donohoe and Grimes, The Damn Band, Kim and the Caballeros, Good Grief and Gary Daniels Cook.

Event packages are available through a number of Angel Fire area lodgers, including hotels and vacation condo and home property managers, and include lodging, lift tickets and concert tickets.

In addition to powder-filled days of skiing, snowboarding, cross-country and tubing, Angel Fire Resort has launched the first and only night skiing and boarding in New Mexico. Revellers can add this to their evening activities. Other activities that are sure to be festival favorites, include the return of the teX Games, on-mountain scavenger hunts, the Big Texan College Steak Eating Challenge, radio station contests, a prize-laden Texas Hold-em competition, mechanical bull contests and Angel Fire’s first-ever Dirt Bag Ball.
