Angel Fire Resort Hosts Its 7th Annual Big Ol' Texas Weekend

ANGEL FIRE, NM - (January 18, 2012) - Angel Fire Resort, located in the tall Rocky Mountains of New Mexico, is throwing its 7th Annual Big Ol' Texas Weekend party January 27-29. It's an appreciation weekend to thank the ski area's loyal Texas crowd, which makes up over 50% of its skiing visitors, with themed entertainment and special discounts.

In celebration, Texas visitors with a valid ID will receive discounts on lift tickets all weekend long--$12 off for adults, $6 off for teens and $3 off for juniors. Themed events include a Friday Night Lights Rail Jam on Angel Fire's lighted front-side terrain park, where all guests can compete for ski and snowboard prizes. Other events include an on-mountain scavenger hunt, a Texas Hold'em tournament, great outdoor BBQ and live local bands. The Amarillo-based restaurant, The Big Texan, will host a steak eating contest - similar to what the steak restaurant along highway I-40 has become famous for: anyone who can eat a 72-ounce steak, in one hour, gets their meal for free. All events are free.

"While some of the snooty ski areas to the north look down on both Texas skiers and New Mexico ski mountains, we know that putting the two together makes for a whole lot of winter fun" explains Dave Dekema, director of marketing, Angel Fire Resort. "This event has grown in popularity and continues to become more of a party each season. It's something we truly look forward to hosting."
