Angel Fire Resort Named No. 1 Bike Park in the Southwest

Angel Fire Resort Named #1 Bike Park in the Southwest
Angel Fire Bike Park Continues Expansion of Trails For Both Expert and Beginners

ANGEL FIRE, NM - (April 3, 2014) - Angel Fire Resort continues to cement its reputation as one of the largest world-class mountain biking destinations in the country. Recently awarded #1 Bike Park in the Southwest by readers of MTBParks.com in Decline Magazine and #2 Bike Park in a North American by Liftopia, the Angel Fire Bike Park is continuing it's efforts to offer the best, most authentic trails to riders this season.

"Our bike park has been solely developed and built by a team of actual riders. The goal has always been to create the most authentic trails that riders will be excited about," explains Hogan Koesis, bike park director, Angel Fire Resort. "The equal mix of man-made versus natural trails on our mountain is what most people who come to check us out, compliment us on. We strive to give all riders a great experience, which we've worked hard in the off-season to create."

While the Angel Fire Bike Park has solidified its reputation with expert riders by hosting a series of races and events, including the 2013 Red Bull Dreamline event last August, the park's goal this season is to engage more beginners and intermediates to the sport. Course designs will include carving out smoother flowing beginner and intermediate trails this summer, including the new Easy Street trail. The park will also expand its current black jump trail, Hungry Hippo and will add in a new blue trail, Devinci's Code, sponsored by Devinci Bicycles. These additions will now offer riders, of all abilities, over 60 miles of new and enhanced trails. During the off season, the Bike Park operations team have worked aggressively to create and improve the mountain cross country and downhill trails to appeal to both the experienced rider, as well as those new to the sport.

"We have the benefit of building our course on a privately owned mountain," Koesis explains. "This allows us the incredible benefits of creating widely varying terrain, an expansive trail network, a long season to build and the full support of resort ownership. This is not only a dream job for me, but it's also a little slice of bike park heaven for anyone who comes out to experience it for themselves."

For the novice and intermediate riders, the Angel Fire Bike Park will continue to rework the trails so beginners will have a safe and controlled environment to learn the sport, improve their basic skills and fine-tune the right technique for difficult sections. A full span of instructors is also on hand for one-on-one skills training and advice. This season Angel Fire Resort is offering more for families and younger riders who have never mountain biked - including more smaller-sized bikes in the rental fleet, a new summit area skill center, bike clinics and multi-day camps.

The Angel Fire Bike Park also boasts one of the longest seasons in the Rockies with all trails open from May 16 - mid October, offering 110 days of riding, weather permitting. Riders will once again be able to enjoy the new Enduro trails that were added last season. Simply take the lift up and enjoy the scenic surroundings and biking opportunities on the backside and either download, or choose a plethora of trails to descend down the front.

The 60-plus mile trail network does not include the great off-mountain trails in the village of Angel Fire and surrounding Kit Carson National Forest. Options off the mountain include the 23-mile South Boundary Trail, which begins just south of Angel Fire and ends in Taos, NM. The South Boundary Trail, deemed by many to be a "can't miss" epic ride, features some of the best high-altitude single-track anywhere in the United States. These off-mountain trails give reason to plan extended stays in Angel Fire to experience all the area offers for fat tire enthusiasts.

Along with the revamped terrain the resort is offering deep discounts on passes and lodging packages, creating an affordable mountain biking destination for riders and families.

* The Gravity Pass is a a season pass that offers unlimited chairlift rides from May - October, and three free days at Trestle Bike Park in Winter Park, CO., and will be sold for just $229 through April. Starting May 1 the pass increases to $259
* Adult Single-day Lift Pass $33-$39 (Date dependent)
* Single Person 3 Pack: $99
* Two Rides: $20
* Stay & Ride Package - as low as $79 per person, per night, based on double occupancy. Includes lodging at the slopeside Lodge at Angel Fire Resort and a single-day lift pass.

Angel Fire Bike Park will also host a series of day races. Every other Saturday starting June 28, riders will be able to do a single course trail race at the end of the day. Riders will register day-of and will compete for bragging rights and free beer at the end of the day.

As the site of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, NORBA Nationals, USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships, Red Bull Dreamline and part of the PRO GRT calendar, the Angel Fire Bike Park will host a series of events this summer season as well.
