What makes our Children’s Ski & Snowboard School Better?

  •  We have the smallest class sizes in the region!*
  • Small Class size; our average instructor to student ratio during the season is:
  • 4 or less for children ages 4-5*
  • 5 or less for children ages 6-9*
  • 7 or less for children ages 7-12*
  • We cut off sales.
  • Longer on snow time; we register starting at 8 a.m. and begin to send out our classes to the snow at 9 a.m.  Most children aged 7 and older will get up to 5 hours of on snow time.
  • Experience and Certification:  Even our most experienced and certified Instructors teach at the Children’s Center.  PSIA-AASI level 1-3 certified Instructors, many with Children’s Specialist 1 and 2 credentials work with your Children every day at the Children’s Center.  All of Angel Fire’s Ski & Snowboard Staff are specially trained to teach Children.
  • Professional Oversight.  The Children’s Director and Supervisors are in the field monitoring your child’s progress and have a hands on approach, making sure that classes are compatible and appropriately progressing.  The Supervisory staff will get to know each child individually because that is how much we care about your child.
  • Qualified and abundant indoor staffing.  We typically overstaff our indoor facilities.
  • Outstanding food!  Chef Earlene provides homemade fresh and nutritious meals every day.  Daily homemade soups, salads, entrees like Meatloaf and other solid meals are served.   Vegetarian options are always available.
  • Up to date Rentals and Helmets are complimentary, as are lift tickets.
  • Security and “peace of mind”; every Child is equipped with Flaik GPS technology (see below).  We know in real time where your child is on the Mountain.  At the end of the day, you can share your child’s skiing day by going on line and viewing their travels.
  • Results!  Check out our “Reasonable Expectations Chart”.  We have been developing this program a very long time and are experts at developing ages and their respective competencies at the appropriate pace and with the correct practice to create lifelong skiers and riders.  To help us help you have the best experience it is essential that you read as much of the information contained below.

This season we partnered with Flaik, a GPS-based alpine guest tracking system. Children enrolled in lift-served lessons will be equipped with a lightweight armband locator, and real-time tracking is available for the ski school management to immediately ascertain the location of individual children. Images are captured multiple times per second, allowing detailed analysis of location and turn shape. This system ensures increased security and peace of mind for parents, instructors and management. In addition, parents and children can view their runs, vertical feet skied and other stats online.

Children’s Lesson Important Policies

  • Same Day lesson sales at the Resort will be cut off by 8:30 a.m. for Full Day enrollment if space is available.  To begin classes promptly and without disruption, we require adherence to this important policy.
  • Your child needs time to adjust to his coach, surroundings and new friends. The distraction of well intentioned “Helicopter Parents” hovering around his or her class does impact the continuity and effectiveness of your child and other children’s lesson. The Kids need to concentrate! Go ski and have fun; at the end of the day your child’s Instructor will be able to share your child’s progress.
  • Please be prompt for check out. Your child has had a wonderful day and is excited about showing and telling you about their success! Make sure you collect all their belongings (shoes too) at check out. Instructors are available to discuss your child’s progress.
    – 4-5 Year Olds – Check out starts at 3:30 p.m.
    – 6-12 Year Olds – Check out starts at 3:30 p.m.
  • We strongly encourage, however not force, all children to ski or ride do and our goal is to provide a fun and challenging program so that every child has a positive first experience on snow. Your child must be a willing participant.  The Lil’ Chiles program is a physically challenging activity.  Children should be well rested for a full day of effort, able to use the restroom independently and no longer taking naps.  The Lil’ Chiles program is not Daycare!
  • Please do not attempt to place your child in a lesson that is not designed for his or her age or ability. Parents, you do yourself, your child, other children and your child’s coach a disservice by misrepresenting your child’s age or ability. Our teaching methodology is designed with your child’s age in mind.
  • Birth certificates verifying ages will be required for all 3, 4, 5 and 6 year olds participating in any CSSC program for the first time.  Once their actual DOB is on file this will no longer be necessary.  We apologize for the inconvenience, however the frequency of misrepresentation negatively affect the quality of the experience for others.  We reserve the right to request a birth certificate to verify the age of any participant.  Please ask your reservationist to assist in faxing or emailing.  Birth certificates may be forwarded via email at dob@angelfireresort.com or faxed to 575-377-2001
  • Skiing with a leash and wedgie-edgie in front of Dad is not skiing.  Please understand that we are a “skill based” program.  We use terrain that keeps children in a non-defensive comfort zone.  We do not measure success by the color of the slope and will not “over terrain” children by request.  Remember, you hired us because we are the experts.  Please give us the courtesy of your support and benefit of the doubt.  We want your child to progress as much as you do!
  • We take great care in providing a nurturing learning environment with a well staffed indoor facility, experienced, instructors who are trained to identify learning styles, fear-based “tummy aches” and all the challenges associated with learning a new sport in a new environment.  We understand the age specific competencies for children concerning their cognitive, affective and physical development.  You know your child the best, so any information you can give your reservationist in our notes will greatly assist us in getting the most out of their experience.
  • Friends and family members may be separated because of age or ability.
  • Be certain that the Children Center staff is aware of any medical or special needs your child may require.
  • Special diets may require that parents send a lunch with child, however; Please do not include any form of nuts or nut products!  We are a Nut-Free Program!
  • Children’s lesson times may include organizational time, rest periods, shelter from inclement weather or play time depending on the needs of the children. Any child who refuses to participate in the lesson may be allowed to remain indoors until their parents are notified for pickup.
  • If a problem should arise with a student in a Children’s Center lesson, on-mountain communication will be in the form of message board at the bottom of critical lifts.  Cell phone communication will also be used.
  • Children enrolled in group lessons at the Children’s Center may need to ride chairlifts with other members of the skiing/riding public, Angel Fire staff or by themselves.
  • We do not issue refunds due to weather, when children are unwilling to participate or who become ill after being in our care 1 hour past the start of their lesson. When issued, any compensatory reissuance of funds are issued to an internal credit minus an administrative fee.
