Welcome to the new 2008 USASA competition season! Angel Fire Resort is once again proud to host this fun and exciting series for our state. Good early season snowfall and fantastic opening conditions are signs pointing to another great winter snowboard (and ski) season in New Mexico. We wish to recognize and thank each of the participating event and prize sponsors in advance of a wonderful season. They include Burton, Never Summer, K2, Dakine, Salomon, Bonfire, Experience Snowboards, Twin Tip Nation, Riptank Boardshop, Anon, R.E.D., Gravis, Analog, Pepsi and Red Bull. We couldn't do it without them! On that note, Red Bull has graciously offered up a series grand prize to send one series participant and a guest to their choice from a list of major Red Bull-sponsored events, including airfare, lodging, event tickets and exclusive VIP opportunities. Entry qualifications and specific prize details will be announced prior to the first competition on January 19th. If you haven't already joined USASA, please do so prior to the first competition. This will prevent you from being slowed down at event day registration (and potentially help keep you from losing valuable practice time). Online registration is now available at www.usasa.org. There are some significant changes in the USASA rules. Use this link to download the current rulebook, http://usasa.memberpro.net/include/body/downloads/0708_Rulebook.pdf Please read it! Here's a quick summary of important things you need to know… -The New Mexico Series must host a minimum of two competitions per event (Slopestyle, Boarder-X/Skier-X, Slalom, Giant Slalom) in order for riders to be eligible for Nationals. -National ranking points will be calculated using the past three competitions, including 2007 Nationals if applicable. Riders may compete in another Series for an additional score. This score will be added to their National rankings points after the competitor competes in two events in his/her Series. There will be no wildcards. Ever. For a detailed explanation, please read Rule 103. The 2008 Nationals will be in Copper Mountain from March 31-April 5. Please note that an additional day has been added. This is to accommodate a larger Open field. The USASA Nationals will now be an event on the pro tour with TTR points, the whole shebang. This will benefit everybody as there will now be more available start times for the amateur fields because the pros will compete separately. Other USASA information-- including the websites for all USASA Series around the country and a master schedule of all USASA events for the entire season-- is posted at www.usasa.org. As always, the quality of the USASA events depends on the time, effort and energy of many committed volunteers, as judges, course marshals and registration staff. Please let me know if you, your friends and/or family have interest in helping to support this great series through volunteer efforts. If anyone has any questions regarding any of the information above, feel free to contact me at the numbers below. Let's get ready for a great season! Regards, Brinn Colenda
