Here we are late April in Angel Fire, NM and what do we see? More snow on the golf course!! It melts as fast as it falls and provides moisture for the upcoming growing season. Not at all bad but Springtime in the Rockies is like this. The crew is getting many things done as we begin a new golf season. Only twenty days until opening (May 18) and the greens are looking good. Only minimal winter damage that is recovering. Some seeded areas have already germinated and should fill in quick.
Projects for 2016 include new irrigation controllers or satellites that will communicate with a central computer at the shop. This will give us many options and programming possibilities for the future. Thanks to The Association of Angel Fire Property Owners (AAFPO) and the staff for getting this project near completion. We can operate the system in the field with smart phones and set up infinite programs as needed. This will ultimately save water and electric use while improving turf quality.
We’ve also added two new tees to hole 12, one longer and one shorter (shown below). Women and youth will have 100 yards and tournament/pro tee will stretch out to 175. New tee markers are also being made and will be set up on opening day as well. (We will show a sample on the next blog.)

View from 12 Green looking at new tees for this year. Blue will play 175 and red/green will play 100 yards.
Hope to see members and guests in May as the weather warms up. Driving range and practice areas will open May 14th. If you are back earlier and need your cart inspected come by the shop and we can help with that.
