Everything You Need To Know About the 2021-2022 Winter Season Delayed Opening Day

December 8, 2021

Last week, we made the tough decision to delay the opening of our 2021-2022 ski season. We’re now looking forward to offering you the family-friendly mountain adventures you crave beginning December 17th, 2021.

Whether you’ve already booked a stay with us or are just wondering when might be the right time to do so, we know you have questions. Good news: we have answers!

Please keep reading to learn all you need to know about our new Opening Day.

When will Angel Fire Resort be open?

Our new planned opening date is December 17th, 2021.

Why did Angel Fire Resort delay the opening of its Winter Season?

Angel Fire Resort and the Moreno Valley are both currently experiencing higher than average temperatures as well as a temperature inversion

Under normal circumstances, temperatures in the atmosphere drop at higher elevations. In a temperature inversion (or thermal inversion), cool air remains closer to the surface while warm air rises. In other words, it’s been warmer on the mountain this month than it has been in the valley. These meteorological conditions have seriously affected our snowmaking capabilities.

But the science tells us snow is coming!

If there is no snow now, what will be open on December 17th?

We will make as much snow and open as much of the mountain as we can on December 17th. We will adjust our lift ticket prices to reflect the amount of open terrain.

Could Opening Day be delayed again?

We do not plan on further postponing Opening Day. The latest forecast shows a winter storm moving through Northern New Mexico on Friday, December 10th. This system could produce up to 4 inches of snow. More importantly, it should result in temperatures that are ideal for snowmaking.

If this forecast is accurate, we can open the mountain with top to bottom skiing in as little as three nights — in plenty of time to welcome our first visitors on December 17th.

Will the season be extended beyond March 20th, 2022, to make up for this delay?

We’re aware that anyone who purchased a Season Pass may be concerned that they are losing a week of access to the mountain. However, we cannot make a decision about extending our Winter Season at this time. If and when we do, we will make an announcement on our social media channels. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to stay up-to-date on everything happening at Angel Fire Resort.

Will there still be night skiing at Angel Fire Resort this winter?

Please visit our website to check our night skiing schedule

Will the delay of Opening Day affect the restaurants at Angel Fire Resort?

Only Village Haus and Summit Haus will have delayed openings. You can view all dining hours here.

Can I change my booking?

Yes! We would love to help you change the dates of your stay. Please call us at 800-633-7463 so one of our agents can help you reschedule your winter vacation at Angel Fire Resort.

Can I also reschedule my equipment rentals and Ski & Snowboard School registration?

Yes! Please call one of our agents at 800-633-7463 for further assistance.

Can we get a refund for a vacation we had booked for Opening Week?

We would be happy to credit your card for the total amount of your booking. But we’d prefer to thank you for making us your family’s winter vacation destination by offering you a gift card for the amount you’ve already spent plus 15%. You can use this gift card on a future visit to Angel Fire Resort.

Can I get a refund for my Season Pass?

All Season Pass sales are final. Please remember that our mountain will remain open until March 20th, 2022, meaning you should have plenty of opportunities to use your pass this winter.

Can I get a refund on the 4 or 6 Pack I planned on using during Opening Week?

We will not be issuing refunds on 4 & 6 Packs. These passes are good all season, so we encourage you to visit us once the mountain is open.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this delay has caused you. We did not make this decision lightly, and we hope you will choose to be our guest this season. We look forward to being a part of the winter vacation memories you make with family and friends!
