Chuck Howe: A Proven Leader Whose Community Roots Run Deep
Chuck Howe has been a Member for over 15 years, but his relationship with Angel Fire Resort spans more than four decades. A former U. S. Army Officer, Chuck founded the National Veterans Wellness & Healing Center (NVW&HC) in Angel Fire in 2009. The NVW&HC promotes the use of creative therapies and processes to help veterans heal from the invisible wounds of war.
Read on to learn more about Chuck, his outstanding record of community service, and how he hopes to add to that record as a member of the AAFPO Board of Directors.
What made you decide to run for a seat on the AAFPO Board of Directors?
I am running for the AFFPO Board so I can share my abilities and experiences from my working years and help my community. I have been involved in somewhat similar organizations and have led Boards for 501(c)(3) non-profits. I am also very familiar with the Village of Angel Fire — having served on the Village Council in various capacities, including Mayor Pro Tem, between 2006 and 2019 — the Resort, and AAFPO, having helped with trail management, water quality protection, and the upkeep of our amenities.
How will you help AAFPO act in your fellow Members’ best interests?
If I am elected, I will work hard to understand all of the issues and facts pertaining to AAFPO’s lawsuit against the Resort. Once I feel I have gained a complete understanding, I will support solutions that follow the law and result in fair outcomes for all parties.
How would you describe your management (or leadership) style?
My leadership style is to bring diverse groups together to reach mutually supportive agreements.
What’s your vision for AAFPO?
My vision for AAFPO is to prioritize the resolution to the lawsuit, having each side work together to provide the best possible amenities for the Membership. Once that task is complete, we can move on to expanding Member amenities.
What makes Angel Fire Resort feel most like home to you?
I first visited Angel Fire Resort in 1971 and told myself then that I wanted to live here someday. I spent the intervening years moving around the world in the military. Now I’m happy to have settled down in a beautiful location where you can be as active or as quiet as you want. The people here seem much younger than they are because the many available outdoor activities keep them physically active and mentally alert.
