Trail Update – Angel Fire Bike Park Welcomes 2018 Season

Greetings from the Angel Fire Bike Park trail crew!

The snow melted faster than Aaron Gwin’s tires can rotate on our World Cup race track! Okay, that may be a farfetched analogy, but in all seriousness, the snow is gone and the trails are begging for some fresh tire tracks. Hopefully that excites you as much as it excites us! Our opening weekend is May 18, 2018 and our goal is to be 100% open. That’s right: we plan on being able to shred Upper Supreme’s “Cacao Pow” loamy goodness top to bottom! For those of you looking for a mellow warm-up lap (which is recommended), try out our revamped Easy Street green trail with amazing views and easy riding for the kids or first-time bike park riders.

Christmas in May for the Trail Crew

We purchased a new 4-ton excavator this spring, complete with wrist attachment to curve those amazing, ‘can-be-seen-from-Google-Earth’ berms we all love to ride. Additionally, we are renting 3 smaller excavators, which means every operator will have his own machine for the entire season. Yes, you will notice lots of dirt being moved and new fun stuff to ride all over the bike park on a weekly basis! Our in-house sawmill will be fully operational and constantly ripping through logs to build a surplus of bridge material. So look forward to new bridges and features to be popping up all over the bike park!

What We Are Looking Forward To

Too much to list! We will be heavily focusing on our green trail “Easy Street” for updates to create easier riding for kids and beginners. This is a necessary project for the growth of Angel Fire Bike Park. And besides, who doesn’t want to encourage the youth and new riders to try our sport? They are the future!

As for our “core riders:” don’t worry; we have you covered, too! Look for updates all over the bike park, including: new, rerouted connecting trails; constant maintenance upgrades; and new, fun stuff to play on all over the mountain. Keep an eye out for new sections of Boulder Dash, which will be closer to a fully top-to-bottom blue jump trail with over 150 features to punish you and your bike on. Updated trail plans also include: Hungry Hippo, Lemonade, Duke, Diesel, Ziggy, Mini Boogie…. I think you get the point!

Trail Work

The Angel Fire Bike Shop is bumping up the stoke factor by adding three new e-bikes to their arsenal. The Specialized Turbo Levo is a full-suspension mountain bike with a little extra kick by housing 460Wh of trail-taming juice, efficiently integrated into the motor in the down tube. All of our bike park and greenbelt trails are privately owned, so there’s no red tape on where these bikes can shred. So if you’re looking to explore some new trails, expand your routes, and have fun doing it, the Turbo Levo is the perfect blend of trail performance and power to give your ride the boost you’ve been looking for!

Aside from the bike park, we will be continuing our Greenbelt hiking/XC trail system expansion with the construction of the Cougar trail. This trail is 4 miles with a blue rating and will drop you down to Monte Verde Lake, where you can sit and relax by the water before continuing your journey. Another XC trail update will be newly legal Carson National Forest access points, complete with trail kiosk and mapping. We also are working closely with the forest service to legalize and adapt more trails in the Carson National Forest, resulting in more terrain to be enjoyed by all. We are very excited about this!
