First Winter Carnival & Last Shovel Races Recap

Nearly 120 racers participated in The Last Shovel Race, many were competing for the first time.

Memories were created both on and off the snow at the first Winter Carnival & Last Shovel Race at Angel Fire Resort. The Winter Carnival saw its share of family fun seekers. Children big and small took the free and unlimited carousel rides for all it was worth. Throughout the four days of the carnival, hundreds of guests enjoyed the games and concessions. Many walked away with sweet prizes courtesy of resort sponsors. 

Nearly 120 competitors participated in the Last Shovel Race. Titles were won, and new champions were crowned. Many competitors were racing for the first time. The Little Scoops category was a crowd favorite, with racers under 12 years-old vying for a coveted spot on the podium. Spectators gathered on bleachers and enjoyed drinks at the ice bar, made of snow specifically for the races. Beautifully painted and customized shovels elevated the sport, and distinguished the rookies from the masters. 

After four consecutive days of merriment, the only thing that could possibly be better is the announcement of another year of Shovel Racing. While that remains to be seen, Angel Fire Resort was pleased with the enthusiastic turnout and fervor to save the Shovel Races. 

A big thanks goes out to our entire mountain operations team for building and running the course. Thanks also goes to Ski Patrol for ensuring the safety of all, to the events staff, and to the food and beverage team for feeding the masses.
