Rick Clark

Rick Clark: An Experienced Negotiator and Peacemaker

Rick Clark and his wife Gina became Angel Fire Resort property owners in 2017. They quickly made friends with both their fellow Members and Resort staff. An avid skier and golfer, Rick says that he enjoys the snow most, noting that because he grew up in Texas, “I’ve had plenty of summer but not much winter.”

Read on to learn more about Rick, why he’s running for a seat on the AAFPO Board of Directors, and the positive changes he hopes to effect if elected.

What, in your opinion, is the most pressing issue facing the Member community?
The lawsuit. Nothing says we can’t get along or agree on anything like a lawsuit. I’ve heard all about the lawsuit; I’ve read about the lawsuit. But I haven’t seen any discussion about the peaceful reconciliation options that have failed. Working together seems much more logical.

What’s your vision for AAFPO?
AAFPO has to repair its image. This community is not a militant body. We’re mountain people, second-home people, retired folks with families. The current AAFPO Board is proving how little effort it takes to slip in right under our nose and turn over the applecart. AAFPO has to regain stability and the trust of our Members and this community.

How will you help AAFPO act in your fellow Members’ best interests?
Angel Fire Resort is a super-fun place to be. There are many great amenities to enjoy here, but everyone wants to know they are getting the biggest bang for their buck. It seems there are some concerns over how much each Member is enjoying each amenity: “I only golf but don’t ski.” “I only ski.” “I ski and golf.” Balancing the dues schedule to suit every Member’s needs will be a challenge, but I’m confident we can find a solution if we really listen to each other and collaborate.

What special skills or experiences would you bring to the AAFPO Board?
I graduated from college in Texas and spent 33 years in the Euless Fire Department, retiring in 2014 as Battalion Chief. I’m a problem-solver — a reasoner and negotiator. I like to see all the facts, weigh the options, sift through the negatives and positives, and strive to reach a decision I can be proud of and live with the following days. I’ve also started several businesses, including a real estate appraisal business, and currently co-manage several real estate holding companies. My experience as an entrepreneur helps me understand the ramifications business decisions have on an organization, its partners, and its customers.

Who is your favorite person to enjoy Angel Fire with?
I’ve played a lot of golf with my wife and two grandsons. I’m also blessed with some great friends and have been fortunate enough to share the course with the local pro and his incredible staff.
