As we gear up for a historic 60th anniversary season, we want to share an important operational update about night skiing at Angel Fire Resort. For the 2026–27 winter season, night skiing will be paused.
We know how deeply special night skiing is to our community. As the only resort in New Mexico to offer laps under the stars, it is a cherished tradition for our members, locals, and visiting families alike. We did not make this decision lightly, and we want to share the vision behind this pause and what it means for our mountain’s future.
Rethinking Night Skiing for a Bigger Mountain Experience
Earlier this year, we removed Lift 2 to make room for a game-changing mountain upgrade: the Angel Express, New Mexico’s first high-speed six-pack chairlift.

Where Chair 2 previously served just 2 runs under the lights, the new Angel Express unlocks access to 14 total runs. Replacing Chair 2 fundamentally changes how guests move across the mountain, where they ski, and how they experience our terrain.
We are taking a strategic approach to expand night skiing in a way that truly fits this massive upgrade of our new lift. During the 2026–27 season, our Mountain Operations team will actively monitor how skiers and riders naturally navigate the runs off Angel Express. This observation period will help us make smart, data-driven decisions about where to invest in new lighting infrastructure, ensuring we illuminate the runs our guests love most.
Night skiing will return for future winters, and we thank everyone for their patience while we design this upgraded experience.
A Massive Boost for Day Riding
While the lights will be off after dark this winter, your daytime mountain experience is getting an incredible upgrade. The Angel Express increases our uphill capacity by 1,800 skiers and riders per hour, drastically cutting lift lines and giving you far more time on the snow.
In addition to speeding up access to your favorite classic trails, the new lift opens up brand-new, never-before-skied runs debuting this season, including Heaven Sent, Kofler’s Run, and Deer Glade.
We can’t wait to welcome you back to the mountain on December 11 as we celebrate six decades of mountain history and usher in a bright new era for Angel Fire Resort!
