Flannel shirts. Apple crisp. Golden trees. Warm drinks. Crunchy leaves. Chilly mornings. Snuggly blankets. Crackling fires. Oversized sweaters. Fluttering yellow aspens. Pumpkin bread in the oven. Chunky scarves.
If the cozy feels of fall are your jam, make sure to book a weekend at Angel Fire Resort this season.
Even though we are most widely known for winter skiing and summer mountain biking, don’t sleep on fall at our beautiful mountain resort. We’ve even put together the ultimate three-day fall itinerary for your weekend getaway. It’s jam-packed with amazing experiences to help you get the most out of your vacation.
Day 1
11:00 am – Arrive: Check in at The Lodge.
12:00 pm – Ride to Lunch & Afternoon Activities on the Scenic Chair Lift: Dangle your feet and enjoy gorgeous fall colors and spectacular views as our chairlift takes you to the mountain summit at 10,677 feet. Once at the peak, grab a burger or a sandwich on the wrap-around porch of The Summit Haus, which features “top of the world” views that extend north beyond Eagle Nest Lake and all the way to Colorado. While you’re up there, continue to appreciate the amazing vistas during a round of Disc Golf. It’s free to play with the purchase of your lift ticket.
When you are ready to head back, you have the option of either hiking down or riding the chairlift back to the base area. The views on the way down allow you to see the entire valley, Wheeler Peak (the tallest mountain in New Mexico), and Eagle Nest Lake State Park.
6:00 pm – Dinner: Elements at the Country Club offers fine dining in a casual but spacious setting. Dine outside and enjoy expansive views, sip a cocktail at the upscale bar, or eat inside. Elements selects only the finest ingredients from local producers to ensure your meals are fresh and savory. Enjoy a wide selection of appetizers, steaks, seafood, and light fares and a full array of beer, mixed drinks, and fine wines. Private dining is available for families or small groups.
Day 2
8:00 am – Breakfast: Head into town for a leisurely breakfast at the Bakery & Cafe at Angel Fire. It’s been a staple for the last 25 years for a reason. We hear great things about the biscuits and gravy.
9:30 am – Biking: No matter your skill level, a bike ride is a great way to catch glimpses of fall color in Angel Fire. You can bring your own mountain bike or rent all the gear you need at our Bike Shop. For the experienced mountain biker, our downhill mountain bike park is the largest in the Rocky Mountains and has been voted Best in the Southwest by MTBparks.com 7 years in a row! But if cross-country mountain biking is more your speed, the Moreno Valley is home to a growing network of cross-country trails. You can learn more about them here.
1:00 pm – Picnic lunch & lake activities: Either pick up a quick snack at the grocery store in town or a to-go order from the Lift Cafe for a peaceful picnic lunch at Monte Verde Lake. After your picnic, there are a few options. Enjoy lounging lakeside with a good book. Or head to the boathouse to rent a canoe, pedal boat, fishing gear, and more. There’s even a hike around the lake if you still have energy after your morning of biking. We highly recommend staying at the lake until sunset because watching the sun sink below the beautiful spring-fed, high-mountain lake will most certainly make you forget all your cares and concerns.
6:30 pm – Dinner: After your full day of activities, treat yourself at El Jefe. El Jefe is a casual fresh-Mex taqueria and Mexican themed bar. Enjoy a variety of delicious tacos & burritos plus a great selection of cocktails, tequilas, beer, and more. We recommend the chips & guac and margarita botellas (a pitcher of margarita) to share.
Day 3
8:00 am – Breakfast: Either bring your own breakfast from home or stop by the Lift Cafe for a breakfast burrito.
9:00 am – Golf: Tee off at 8,600′ on our par 72, 6,653-yard,18-hole golf course surrounded by the majestic southern Rocky Mountains, and at this time of year, dotted with yellow aspen.
1:00 pm – Lunch: After your round of golf, enjoy a leisurely lunch at Par & Grille. They serve a great selection of classic delicatessen sandwiches, sides, and sweets. Trust us. You won’t regret an order of their house-made chips.
2:30 pm – Afternoon activities: No one’s judging if you want an afternoon nap. You are on vacation after all! But if you still want to take in some gorgeous fall color, we suggest a drive on the Enchanted Circle. There are plenty of spots to step out of the car and appreciate the views.
7:30 pm – Dinner: Tonight, head into town and enjoy delicious Peruvian food at Mikuna Grill. You can taste the generational recipes and passion for cooking in every bite. We recommend the ceviche and empanadas. Chef’s kiss!
It’s time to head home. But we hope you enjoyed your 3 perfect fall days in Angel Fire. We can’t wait to see you again next season!
